Accepted Answer

Yes, during the current closed beta. Sign in with Google to get an API key, and generous rate limits apply while we're in the experimentation phase. Pricing may be introduced later as the product matures, but existing usage patterns won't be broken without notice.

Do I need an API key to try it?

To call the API yourself, yes — sign in with Google from the account menu or the /docs page and a key is generated automatically. You don't need to sign in just to browse the site or read the docs.

How does embedding actually work — do I need to install anything?

No JavaScript or package install required. The API returns a plain PNG image, so a single <img> tag pointing at your configured URL is enough. The same URL keeps generating that word in that style anywhere you paste it.

The layout and style stay consistent, but flower placement includes a small random jitter for an organic, hand-placed look rather than a robotic grid. That means two requests with identical parameters won't be pixel-identical, though they'll look the same at a glance.

Yes. The embed builder's "As a heading" snippet wraps the image in a heading tag with the real word kept as visually-hidden text in the DOM, while the image itself is marked aria-hidden. Search engines and screen readers see the actual heading text; sighted visitors see the flower artwork — so you don't lose that heading's SEO weight.

What are the rate limits?

Authorized requests (with a valid API key) are currently capped at 60 per minute per key — generous for typical embed usage. Requests without a valid key are limited more tightly, mainly to discourage key-guessing. Limits may be adjusted as the beta opens up to more users.

What data do you store when I sign in?

Accepted Answer

Your name, email, and avatar from Google, plus a one-way hash of your API key and a separately encrypted copy (so you can reveal it again later — the key is never stored in plain, directly-readable form), a masked preview, and when it was created. Rate-limit checks look at your IP address but that check lives only in server memory and isn't logged or persisted. See the Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.

No. Each request renders the image on the fly from the parameters you send and returns it directly — nothing is written to a database or disk afterward.

Yes — images you generate are yours to use anywhere, including commercial sites, as long as your usage follows the Terms of Service (no reselling the raw API as your own product, no abusing rate limits).

Can I customize the font, flower style, size, spacing, or colors?

Yes. The API accepts query parameters for font, flower graphic, flower size, spacing, jitter, word size, vertical stretch, letter spacing, a resolution multiplier for retina screens, and an optional background color (it's transparent by default). The embed builder at /docs lets you tune all of these visually and copies the resulting URL for you.

What happens if I lose my API key?

Nothing to worry about — sign in and click "Reveal key" from the account menu to see it again anytime. Only regenerate if you think the key's been exposed to someone else: that immediately invalidates the old one, so update any embeds still using it before you do. (Keys created before reveal shipped can't be revealed retroactively — regenerate once to enable it going forward.)

Yes. It's a plain image URL behind an <img> tag, not a script — there's no CORS restriction or domain allowlisting to configure. Paste the URL into any site you control.

TaamToom is a closed-beta, single-maintainer project, not a company with an SLA. The rendering API and rate limits are stable and used in production by early adopters, but treat it as you would any young hosted service: fine for embeds where an occasional slow response is acceptable, not yet something to build a critical path around. A formal uptime commitment will come as the product matures.

Flowers are where TaamToom started, not a permanent limit. The idea behind it — letting a word take the shape of whatever gives your site personality — extends naturally to other objects (stone, diamonds, and more), which are planned for future updates.
